Fernando has acted as a general corporate strategic counsel for transnational,regional and local companies doing business in Costa Rica and the rest of Central America, focusing on corporate matters that have ranged cross border business transactions covering Mergers & Acquisitions, Joint Ventures, corporate reorganizations, foreign investment and market entry issues, compliance and corporate governance. He also participates in structuring projects for energy generation, telecommunications and infrastructure, and in the set-up of manufacturing and shared services operations for global companies in Costa Rica under the Free Trade Zone Regime, including several ranked in the Fortune 500 listing, among others. 

Fernando is also spearheading the Telecom, Media and Technology (TMT) practice area, leading attorneys specialized in New Technologies, Data Protection and IT Law to serve the needs of clients.

Several international publications have praised him in general for his responsiveness. Chambers and Partners has rated him as an “excellent lawyer” with a “wealth of experience and a wide spectrum of knowledge”. Who’s Who Legal says that he is “a top name for local and multinational companies when it comes to complex restructurings and corporate transactions” and “market sources applaud his work on corporate and family business related issues”.

Fernando holds an LL.M Degree from Georgetown University Law Center, Washington, D.C. (1998), is a licensed attorney in the Republic of Costa Rica (1995,cum laude distinction), a Notary Public, and an author of several articles in international publications. He is fully proficient in Spanish and English and  has limited working proficiency in Portuguese.
