Biography
Hernán Pacheco is the Managing Partner of EY Law in Central America, Panama, and The Dominican Republic, as well as director of its M & A and Project Finance practice groups. His work is mainly in the area of local and international mergers and acquisitions, as well as joint ventures, corporate structuring, project finance, distribution, agency and franchises, foreign investment and civil and commercial contracts. Given his vast experience of more than 30 years in complex international transactions, he has advised local and international clients on the acquisition or sale of commercial and industrial groups with investments in Costa Rica, his home country, and abroad. Additionally, he is advisor and has form part of the Board of Directors of several national and regional companies.
He holds a degree in Law, Cum Laude Probatus, from Universidad Autónoma de Centro América and a Master’s Degree from the University of Hull in the UK. He also has a PIL from Harvard University and became a Notary Public in 1986.
Mr. Pacheco has also been a frequent speaker in subjects such as mergers and acquisitions, Project finance, agency and distribution, antitrust, licencing, infraestructure development and international trade for the International Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the American Law Institute, the Costa Rican Bar Association and the Technological Institute of Monterrey. Mr. Pacheco has further written numerous articles for specialized international publications. He has also been very active in the organized business sector as President of the Board of Amcham Costa Rica (2005-2007), Vicepresident of AACCLA (2009-2012) and member of the Executive Committee of the Union of Chambers of Costa Rica (2010-2014).
Mr. Pacheco is considered one of the most prominent transactional attorneys of the region by Legal 500, International Financial Law Review, Latin Lawyer and Chambers and Partners, which has also classified him as Leader in his field for several years in a row.
